the DEPOT

The Newbern Historical and Preservation Society is a non-profit organization which developed from the original "Depot Committe" formed to renovate and restore the depot built around 1928.  The property was purchased by the City of Newbern and the formed Depot Committee began to raise funds and worked toward the full restoration of the facility.

Depot Days was the child of this fundraising.  Begining in or about 1990 a small group of people gathered to sale baked goods and other items for the funding of the reconstruction.  The building was officially dedicated and listed on the National Registery of Historic Places in September of 1992.  This dedication set the official founding of the Depot Days Festival.  This festival has now expanded over it's 16 year history and is the largest continually operated festival in Dyer County Tennessee.

Who We Are

The NHPS and the City of Newbern Parks and Recreation Department are the primary Care Takers of the Depot.

In 2007 the NHPS completed and exterior face lift of the Building at an estimated cost of material and labor estimated at almost $7,000.00.

These funds were raised through functions such as Depot Days and the Depot Theater Productions.

In a given average year approximately 2000 physical hours are donated by the NHPS Committee.
